Diarmuid is a Software Development Manager and Technical Architect with BearingPoint and he is currently leading a distributed, agile product development team between Dublin and Geneva. He holds a BA(Mod) in Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin. He has a keen interest in web-based, frontend technologies and agile methodologies and in his spare time, he is developing a multiplayer tabletop game platform.

Bobby will talk about how CarTrawler currently processes over 3,000 searches a second on it’s low cost LINUX boxes, and what techniques and tech culture they used to achieve that. CarTrawler operate complex inventory and machine learning based (real-time) pricing to close to 1 billion active customers a year through the 100 or so airlines it powers. CarTrawler is mainly a Java shop on the backend and AngularJS and ReactNative on the frontend.

Speaker Bio

Experienced inventor, investor and technology entrepreneur specialising in travel technology. Joined CarTrawler in 2005 via MBI, having begun a career building computer games for Nintendo at 16 years of age. Prior to joining CarTrawler, founded Eland Technologies which was later sold to airline technology giant SITA and remained as CTO until 2005.

CarTrawler is exclusively used by over 100 international airlines to power their online businesses and has been through two successful MBOs since Bobby joined.

Still an avid computer programmer and a frequent speaker on the international circuit on subjects related to technology in the airline industry and further afield.

Philip is a highly experienced Software Development Professional with over 20 years Software Development and Project Management experience. Previously Roles include Senior Development & Engineering Managers positions at Dun & Bradstreet & Citi Bank, with a MBA in Innovation, Strategy, IT Project Management, Financial Accounting, General Management Theory.

He has I have setup, grown and challenged teams to focus their strengths on delivering on project goals that aligned with business needs. He has been an enthusiast and driving force for adopting Lean Software methodologies in multiple companies over the last nine years. He is currently working to grow his development group in R&D to proactively drive strategic design, better technologies and agile processes to meet customer needs within Fenergo.

In this talk Roland will quickly talk about his experience building and running Micro-Services Architectures and will specifically talk about the journey of Nitro with a focus on building a Shared-Nothing Micro-Services Architecture. He will talk about the concepts and the challenges and the lessons learned and all the *fun* we had so far. He will also give a glympse of the future (what in gods name is a Smart-Document Management Platform).

Roland is the VP Engineering at Nitro and is currently working to build the engineering team in Dublin and San Francisco, that will build Nitro's next-generation Smart-Document Management Platform. He is interested in everything that got to do with computer science and that makes delivering valuable/useful solutions/systems better and easier. Right now, he learns Haskell and invests a lot of time to figure out how Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing can help to deliver the Smart-Document Management Platform.

Ian Huston is the Associate Director of Pivotal Labs in Dublin. As a data scientist Ian has worked with global companies and household brands to transform how they make use of data in their business. He was previously a university researcher in cosmology, creating and then destroying baby universes inside large scale numerical simulations.
